Project of experimental archaeology for children.
Experimental Archaeology | Archaeologist for a day
Projects for children and young people enabling an awareness of the historical and artistic heritage and to develop their manual and artistics skills.
The actions are performed by experts in the various fields and their contents are directed in order to integrate them as curricular assistance or as free time activities.
Activities designed for the project “Porto de Crianças”, aimed at children of the 1st cycle of basic education, led to a theoretical learning through direct contact with the historical and cultural heritage of the city of Porto, coupled with new experiences with a more ludic character.
In this activity the children will, in a demarcated area of an archaeological site, make excavations according to the indications of the field archaeologists.
They will find traces of “archaeological pieces” (fragments of ceramics previously placed by the animators). They will remove, clean carefully and catalog each one of this pieces.
Children are easily captivated through new challenges and new experiences and they will undoubtedly be the guardians of our heritage for the future.
In this activity we intended to achieve the following objectives:
Give perspective on the reality of the profession of archaeologist
Raising awareness of the importance and richness of the Region’s Archaeological Heritage

Raising awareness of the importance of safeguarding the Archaeological Heritage
Safeguarding the Archaeological Heritage
Developing critical capacity and widening horizons for professions.
Development of measurement and division of spaces
Development of capacities to perform detailed tasks
Knowledge of concepts: archeology, archaeological site, archaeologist, prehistory.
